A blip of two halves
My main blip is Great Mullein (verbascum thapsus), the one and only example to be found in the reserve. I have been watching this particular plant for weeks. Very early on in the spring some careless volunteer with a scythe cut it down just as it was beginning its run for glory - to my intense annoyance, I have to say, as it's one of my favourite wildflowers. It's growing just off a narrow path and two days ago when I was here the buds still looked tight shut - but today, as you can see, they were not!
As I was blipping it, a songthrush was singing its heart out just behind me, so I turned to catch a few shots of that as well. It was a bit distant for the current lens and fairly effectively screened by leaves, but was so much part of the ambience I had to add a shot of it in extras.
I got back from my walk at breakfast time and just before the rain began. The wet has continued all day. Oh joy!! Since when I've bussed into town for more supplies (why do people eat so much?) and a pack of trainer socks (£3 from M&S, a bargain). On my travels I've seen/exchanged remarks with several old fellas sad about last night's football. What a shame, eh, if not unexpected..
And that's about it. Have a good one xx
