Pause for thought
We’ve had the hottest day of the year so far – it’s 5.00 pm and my watch tells me it’s 31°. This photo was taken looking up at the sky through the coppery leaves of the maple tree outside Smithers’ study window.
I’ve felt quite listless today because I don’t enjoy the heat, but at least I’ve been able to sit in my cool house in between quick visits to the garden, either to put out the washing on the line or to have lunch on the terrace in the shade under the parasol.
So I feel really sorry for all the people who have been affected by today’s world-wide software glitch affecting Microsoft Windows 10 computers. Many poor people are stuck in airports and stations in this heat, and this serious software bug comes only one day after the hiatus with the Bank of England CHAPS banking system, which would have had disastrous results for those unfortunate people in the UK who were trying to exchange contracts on property sales yesterday.
I do love technology, but these recent events show by what a thin thread our utter reliance on technology hangs.
