Playful Pair

These two northern flicker woodpeckers flew back and forth into this walnut tree chasing one another. It was quite amusing to watch them play hide and seek around the trunk. Both young males I think.

Apparently, northern flickers have slightly curved beaks to aid in excavating insects from soil, unlike other woodpeckers that feed on insects under tree bark.
