Still

It's still sizzling hot - by our UK standards (in fact the Met Office has just issued a heatwave warning for the South West) and the sea is still amazingly calm. It's weird to go so many days and not see any surf.

Richard took Tess for a short bike ride early on before it got too hot. I mostly spent the day washing, making bread, and doing low-impact gardening. Mum came over for a couple of hours at 3, and Tess mainly poured water over her head and lolled around being tired and grumpy. We're still not getting enough sleep and I don't think Tess is either. I think her poor little body could do with a rest.

Gemma came home this evening and we all took the dog to the beach after 5.30. Joel didn't come because he's been working all day dishwashing and food-prepping and was knackered.
It was still warm and busy on the beach. Even at 6pm when most people would normally have gone.

We watched small fish and jellyfish enjoying the calm shallows, and people everywhere just generally hanging out in the water to keep cool. It wasn't really the beach I'm so familiar with and with the light behind everyone, turning them all into silhouettes, it was almost eerie. Eerie in a nice way - if that's possible! (?)

Tess is hot and thirsty this evening and has a mild headache. I've tried to convince her to stay in bed as long as possible tomorrow and have a quiet day out of the sun.
