A red and yellow Gazania
The Feast Day of St Nazarius and St Celsus.
The 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time of the Christian Calendar.
A Day dedicated to remembering Grandparents and the Elderly.
July as we like it, is definitely here today. I could not be happier nor more thankful. 22.9c in the cool front room where I am watching Songs of Praise, with an Olympic theme. The conservatory is 82f and far too hot for me, but Hunter is asleep on the floor in a shady corner. Holly is in her cat bed in here with me.
Today is special for Paul and me, because 35 years ago we moved from Accringto to Rishton.
Our son was very young, born 1988, but we wanted a second child and our two up two down wasn't really big enough. The move to Rishton was the best choice, to a sweet corner three bedroom terrace house built in 1897. My children, son and daughter Maria, went to a good Catholic Primary school and the feeder High School in the Ribble Valley. Rishton is a beautiful kind caring close knit community with three Churches and one closed Catholic Church, but they hold Holy Mass in the school hall on Sunday. The Leeds Liverpool canal is a wonderful feature, and Cut Wood our Green Flag excellent woodlands and park, mgiven to the people of Rishton by the Petre Family.
The Parish Church is a good example of a community minded, charitable Church, with annual fairs, a Friday Community cafe, fund raising and great marmalade for only £1 a jar.
There is a thriving cricket club and golf club, a railway station and a pub dating to 1753, The Roebuck.
The Rishton Arms is near the railway station. There is a Post Office and Library we fought hard to keep. The People's Centre is a popular place for socialising for the more elderly folk.
We have a Labour Councillor and MP.
I hope you like my colourful Gazania flower. The ones I bought from the Co op are healthy and full of buds. Two are bright orange.
Thank you so much for dropping by blip friends and enjoy your Sunday.
