That Will Do!

Balgonie Castle

Had the Google Maps not taken us in the wrong direction we would not have needed to correct our route and thus pass Balgonie Castle. This was a short stop purely for the photograph but we also enjoyed a flight of goldfinches feeding on thistledown.

The intended destination of Leven achieved, a wander round and future blips filed in the memory bank, we continued to Lower Largo for another wander.

There is an interesting obelisk of unusual art here, and we learned more from a local couple who spoke to us as we admired some garden gates. These belonged to retired architect Alan Faulds, who has created several stunning sculptures, mainly of gates but the obelisk, known as the Malagan, and another atop a disused telephone box (see extra1)are the exceptions. They are made from wood carved into shape and painted, then varnished against the sea air. Extra 2 is of the other examples we found, including a different view of the phone box topper.

I think we'll be back to this part of the coast with more time to explore.
