Not a thistle!

This morning when I saw these plants I thought they were giant thistles as the plants were over 6 ft tall. I took a quick photo and on checking it seems they are globe artichokes. I have never grown them and did not realise they had flowers like this!

After a swim and a visit to the dentist ( broken tooth so expensive work needed in the future!) we went to meet friends for lunch at a pub we like in Clandon, Surrey. This meant going down the A3 but today it was fine, very little traffic. The temperature was up to 33C in the car but fortunately the pub had air con. What would we do without air con in the car on very hot days?! 

Back home watching more of the Olympics and wondering how Andy Murray and Dan Evans will get on today. A good medal haul yesterday.
