Fisherrow Harbour, Edinburgh by the Sea
The last time we were at Portabello was to meet up with JoppaStrand in 2020 so it was about time we returned.
Having caught the 44 from Balerno to Princes Street then the 26 to Portabello we were there long after Lady Findhorn might have been there for her morning swim (turns out she didn’t go today)
Stopped for lunch at the Butternut Cafe on the way to the seafront. Not a good choice as what turned out to be an indifferent salad cost £12, which was more than a less than healthy fish and chips or omelette and chips.
Rather better was a coffee from the BeachHut cafe which we enjoyed before setting off to walk along the coast to Fisherrow. The beach around Fisherrow could have been pleasant yet it was littered with bottles, cans, boxes and other detritus from previous visitors.
It was a lovely sunny day on the coast although parts of the prom that were in the shade felt the keen effects of a northerly breeze.
Shame we didn’t have time to explore the “Honest Toon” and beyond. It looked interesting and somewhere for another time.
Meanwhile Barbara and David having rested on the Porty Prom made their way to Oscar’s Ice Cream parlour where we joined them for some rather fine ice cream.
The 26 took us back into Edinburgh and an appointment at the Scottish Malt Whisky Society’s place in Queen Street. A few drams were sampled and a bottle procured for myself: named Persimmon Platter, a Speyside 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel spicy & sweet single malt.
The three hours we were there passed by quickly then the 44 took us back to Balerno. Tomorrow we have the long drag back to Kent.
