Willow Queen

On a beautiful day I took my Belgian friends (who are visiting us for the first time in 15 years) to Fife. Our first stop was to Strathmiglo to look for outdoor jackets. Then on to St Andrews for a walk round by the Castle and the ancient cathedral. More shopping than a spot of lunch where we were advised to eat indoors to avoid the seagulls pinching our lunch!

The town was looking great as seen in the extra of the church and its floral display.

A quick visit to Fisher and Donaldson for some bakery treats then on to Cupar and a brief visit to pick some of the last blackcurrants.

By 3pm we were at Falkland Palace where we were greatly informed by the volunteers on the origins of first the castle (now gone) and the palace and its rich history around the Stuart kings and queens. A great visit topped off with a stroll round the gardens and seeing the world’s oldest tennis court where real or royal tennis has been played for over 450 years.

We also saw this construction of the Willow Queen which was beautifully made.

We left as the site closed at 5pm. Slow traffic on the run up to the Queensferry Crossing meant that arrival home allowed me just 5 minutes to change and gather my papers for a church meeting at 7pm.

We finished just after 10 so back home for some dinner and a wind down. Been a very good day.
