Precious Few

Precious few hummingbirds have graced us this year and those that made their presence known, did so by the sound of their wings, rather than showing themselves. And so I took my chance with this one, even though it was a distance away in the middle of the prairie.

I was only allowed one shot before it left as quick as it came. I didn't have time to refocus on the bird, autofocus annoyingly choosing the flower in front.

Nevertheless, I thought this image, with the wings absent in a blur, captured the fleeting nature of our encounter to a tee.
