Perfect for a rainy day
A grey and wet day all day today which was as forecast so we stuck to our plan to head to Wigtown for a wander. It certainly lives up to its title of Scotland's National Book Town and I availed myself of several of its 14 independent bookshops. I was quite restrained and only actually bought three books, second hand fiction in New Chapter Books and two new books with connections to the area in The Bookshop which reckons to have a mile of shelving. I also had a good browse in Readinglasses with a beautiful front room full of books written by or about women and currrently up for sale.
Bailey and Dad waited outside the umpteen bookshops and Bailey attracted the usual amount of attention from border terrier fans. We finished off our visit with lunch in a combined bookshop and coffee shop (Books and Bakes) with a lovely garden which we could at least look at if not appreciate in the rain. The huge local map along one wall and the book cover prints were as good an indoor backdrop to our lunch.
We decided not to venture out any further in the rain but headed back to the Wheel House. Three games of Bananagrams and our own adapted scoring system. A tie for first currently so there will need to be a rematch before we head home on Saturday.
