Over four hundred
forest fires burn in the
province - we're lucky
~carliewired
I was listening to the 6 AM news on my car radio as I drove off to Tranquille. There's that pink tinge in the sky from the forest fire smoke we're all too familiar with.
I took the road at the base of my hill. It winds along past the city transit bus garage where I discovered a doe and her fawns grazing the landscape. The fawns still have their spots and are very cute. The doe seems to have something wrong with the skin/hair around her neck. It's discoloured and she licks a lot. I hope it is nothing serious.
I got my first shot of my mountains as I watched the freight train pass the crossing. Then, I was on to the wetlands pond in Tranquille.
I was there to check out the osprey nest. Today, I didn't see the adults, just the offspring were on the nest and appeared to be feeding. It occurred to me that it may well take both parents hunting/fishing to feed these big kids now. I wondered when I might see them take flight. They will need to learn to hunt for themselves as well.
I drove away from Tranquille with a pause to look at the pond once again. I took some long shots of what I assumed were herons. When I pulled up my shots I could tell from the red eye patch that these were sandhill cranes hunting along the edge of the pond. What a lovely surprise!
I was back home with my breakfast before 7. I have need of a haircut today and must put in an appearance at my office as well. Most of the afternoon will be quietly and thankfully mine.
