No marmots to see
this morning - where have they all
gone? Hibernation?

I was listening to the 6 AM news as I drove into McArthur Island Park. I peered over at the slough to see its water level receding. Green grass is now growing where water had stood.
I drove past the Butterfly Garden and onto the west side of the drive. I stopped to get that angry red sun appearing beside my mountains. I noticed movement under the trees and discovered deer behind the mini golf location. A doe and her fawns were enjoying the quiet space. I did not spot the second fawn until I loaded my pictures onto my laptop. There it was curled up in the shade of a tree while its sibling browsed.
A buck appeared and he was limping. I wasn't fast enough to catch him. He slid down the embankment and disappeared from view.
I stopped on the south edge of the park to find marmots. None to be found today. I see evidence of food left for them but no marmots appeared for me.
I made the Xeriscape Garden my last stop. I got some fading flowers and the gazebo. I took one last look over the river to the downtown. All looks very grey this morning in this odd light. I got a shot of an SUV in zany colours with its colourful cargo. I see it each time I'm in the park.
I have some errands to run this morning, then I will be happily at home with my feet up.
