Gently

This rose, Scarborough Fair, is a new one to us this year.  It is on the patio in a pot and has started producing a second flush of flowers.  It's nice to be able to look out on to the soft pink flowers from the kitchen.

A day catching up with a few jobs at home, then some 'cooking'. I made a dip from Borlotti beans and beetroot, flavoured with spices and herbs.  Then, to use up some of the courgettes and French beans from the allotment, I made a minestrone soup.

Grateful:
- To speak by telephone with my late mother's partner.  We have many similar interests - walking, cycling, allotments, nature. It was good to talk and hear his latest news.
- To have a little chat with another allotment plot holder this afternoon.  He is nearly 80 and has a number of health issues but enjoys growing vegetables.  He is a skilled furniture maker and told me he has just been commissioned to replace an altar at a church near to Chichester.  I'd love to see some of his work - perhaps one day.
- To speak with a couple of neighbours who have a young baby.  They are about to go off in their van for an over night trip for the first time - the two of them, baby and their dog.
