I shot off to the cement works which is my usual go to place for red-veined darters at this time of year. It isn't always successful and it really wasn't today! In fact it didn't matter how deep I went into the reed beds, literally there was nothing there which was half expected but hugely disappointing .

I did see this azure damsel. For anyone who wants some id here:

If you look closely at the thorax you can see the stripes. There are the two broad bands on top then a half band and a very thin black stripe. To add to this on the first 2 segments there is what I can only describe as a bucket in black. I haven't included the tail  here.

I felt I'd done my bit this morning as we'd had a bonfire in the field and both of us are pyromaniacs at heart. Millie wasn't so keen and I saw this little brown head up watching behind a pile of fence posts. 

There was a moment of panic when Hubs wanted rakes as the fire was spreading over the dry field. I would add that if you have everything locked up you aren't going to get there quickly. I did ....and it was sorted thankfully.
