Conesumerism

Today we decided to venture further afield than yesterday and headed to Rye in East Sussex. It was another lovely summer's day and it just felt like we should head back towards the coast.
The journey down was pretty smooth, with remarkably few roadworks, but as it's the height of summer we did have some trouble finding a parking spot but luckily managed to get one of the last spaces available before the car park was full.
We'd arrived just after 12 pm so made our first objective to avail ourselves of some lunch. We decided to frequent one of our favourite pubs in the town - The Standard Inn - for a delicious small plates selection of Korean glazed chicken wings, ham hock and dill croquettes and some skin on fries which we washed down with a pint of Japanese lager.
It was then a time for an amble around the town taking in the winding, and occasionally, cobbled streets. My main image was taken at the bottom of one such cobbled thoroughfare - Mermaid Street - and shows  customers queuing for their ice cream cones outside a local cafe - although I think my favourite part of the shot is the lady in the hat just about to take a seat on the bench outside the window! The extra is the wonderfully eclectic window display of an antiques and collectables store down by the town's quay.
It was great to see the streets thronging with visitors out enjoying the sunshine and that all the shops are now fully occupied and thriving after a tough last few years for the town.
