In Brighton
After a mainly ok but slightly stressful in parts train journey of about 4 hours. Certainly better than driving. Staying with my longest-known close friend, near Lewes. Pretty heavy rain late morning and early afternoon - we get the bus to Brighton and the downpour stops more of less as we get off. Walk along the seafront - one of the places I most love.
This is a campaign action by Viva who advocate being vegan. There’s a group of people in flesh coloured swimsuits crammed together under a fishing net. The woman with the megaphone is reading out a detailed description of how fish caught by nets die - except substituting the word human for fish throughout. I think as political action it’s pretty clever. Plus they’re pushing at an open door with me.
We continue along the sea front towards Hove - and as the rain restarts we go in search of a cafe, through Brunswick Square, in the extra. I really love this place. She and I lived in a Sussex uni house just up from here in Brunswick Place 48 years ago. I can’t get my head around that timescale.
Later we went back to her home and her partner had cooked delicious fish for tea:)
