Cheap Thrills

Going down to Chester on the M6 today we saw several vehicles from Germany and Scandinavia, all with stickers saying “Carbage 2024 England and Wales”. They all seemed to be “older” vehicles and some were very brightly painted. Mrs C was driving so not only could I take a picture, but I was also able to consult Google to see what it was all about
The basic ethos of “Carbage” (car+garbage - geddit!) seems to be that you buy a car more than 15 years old for less than €500 and then set off on an ambitious European tour. This particular tour looks like it has been organised by the Germans and Scandinavians. The only web page I found was in Danish so I only got a vague gist of it, but there was a map showing a circular route around England and Wales and it looked like todays leg was roughly from Carlisle to somewhere in Wales, hence the use of the M6 and M56.
We saw more cars around Kendal as we headed home so possibly today’s route brought them over Shap on the A6. That would have been glorious scenery, so God knows what they made of all the roadworks on our crappy motorway network!
It all looked like a lot of fun, and I have to say that the only broken down cars I saw today were considerably younger and more expensive than the ones on the tour. German reliability - that’s why Mrs C and I drive BMWs!
