Thurso and John o’groats
A rather chilly start to the morning but it was a nice refreshing early walk with Phin. Realised this morning that our water and heating unit was showing an error code, quick call to the dealer confirmed the unit needs replacing so another trip to Catterick is on the cards once they get the part delivered. At least the forecast is good for the weekend and we can boil the kettle for hot water.
After breakfast we headed into Thurso where we enjoyed a slightly damp walk along the beach and found some interesting caves. We decided against lunch in a cafe and headed back to the campsite to drop off the ice I’d picked up to keep the cool boxes cold. We stopped off at the kennels where Phin is booked into for Friday and Saturday (as the music festival doesn’t allow pets) so he could meet the owner, Grace. She seemed really lively and we walked around the kennels and through the enclosed dog run.
I’ve packed into the cool boxes, we drove on to John O’Groats which has been in my list for a long time. A quick late lunch in one of the cafes and a walk to the signpost later and we ended up in the brewery taproom where we read about how JO’G got its name.
Back to the campsite to relax for an hour (or in my case chop veg for the sweet potato and chickpea curry I was making for dinner) before getting together again for another evening of chat and laughter. We must be getting sensible in our old age as we broke up the party just after 10 again.
