Bikes

There were only a few meetings today and work progressed as usual. I ventured less than 300m from my front door to buy some lunch at the Co-op. It wasn’t very healthy. On the way, I passed the pedestrianised area by the station and had to navigate my way through all the rental bikes that are randomly parked. I assume people take them and then board a train. They are very much in the way. I asked ChatGPT to write me a a couple of paragraphs describing the scene. On the second attempt, I added a  prompt to say it was Raynes Park by the station. This is what it produced,

The scene depicts a pavement area in Raynes Park, south west London, with several Lime-branded electric bicycles parked in front of an InPost locker station. The lockers have instructions for sending, collecting, and returning parcels. The bicycles appear to be obstructing the pavement, potentially causing inconvenience for pedestrians. In the background, a few people are near an arched tunnel that leads, in part, to the local railway station. The adjacent shop appears to be an estate agent's office with property listings displayed in the window. The environment looks urban, and the weather appears clear.

In recent years, there has been a significant rise in bike hire schemes like Lime across London, promoting eco-friendly transportation options. However, this increase has also led to more frequent instances of bicycles obstructing pavements, creating potential issues for pedestrians, particularly those with mobility impairments, parents with prams, and the elderly. Balancing the benefits of shared mobility with the need to maintain clear and accessible pavements is becoming an important urban planning consideration.

I thought it was quite good.
