Quod oculus meus videt

Deer in Heather

Some mist first thing had me heading towards Chasewater in the hope of some good conditions.  Frustratingly the wind had picked up and caused the mist to dissipate.  Despite only having the 24-120mm lens on the camera I did come across two young male red deer in amongst the heather.  They allowed me to get this close before turning tail and heading off.

Afterwards, I bumped into a fellow photographer with an inside line on a stag that had been seen recently in some open ground about a mile away.  I followed on to see if it was still there but sadly he was not to be seen.

After breakfast L and I headed to Sudbury Hall, near Ashbourne to see the house and also the museum of childhood, run by the National Trust.  Thankfully, as members we didn't have to pay the £24 entry fee which seems quite expensive compared with other Trust properties we've visited recently.  Certainly of some interest, we saw toys in the museum that brought back some memories, but there was little opportunity for interaction, mainly a look and don't touch sort of exhibition.

We popped in to Lichfield on the way back, a city I visited regularly when Mom was alive, but very rarely since.  We both agreed it still had some vibrance, despite the myriad of charity shops that have arrived in the shopping areas. It even has its own Michelin starred restaurant, and I understand that it is booked out until well into 2025.
