View from the River

I fancied a day in Windsor, but rather than facing the traffic  I took a leisurely drive to Runnymede and a river cruise up the Thames to the heart of Windsor instead, which probably didn't cost much more than the exorbitant town parking fees!

The weather was warm and sunny and the one and a half hour trip, including two locks, was a calm and peaceful experience with great (and different) views and interesting information from the on board commentary.

With over three hours in Windsor I had time to walk around most of the tourist spots (and a few not so touristy), lunch, a quick pencil sketch of the Round Tower and the obligatory ice cream before catching the boat back to Runnymede.

The extra is of the King's swans clustered near the landing stages in Windsor. Talking to one of the boat crew later apparently they can sadly get trapped sometimes and squashed by arriving boats - fortunately this lot kept well out of danger.

The main image is a view across to Windsor Castle from the Thames, and one which you can probably only see from the river.

It was a good day out.
