Brand new baby....

After Sunday night's thunder and torrential downpour, followed by yesterday's fog and rain, today was a lot better.
Wee brother and the hill herd set about weaning some of the hill lambs next door.
I sent Kev next door to muck out the shed we tip grain in. He arrived home at lunch time with a burst hose on the trailer and oil all over the tractor. I also followed a trail of oil all the way to Gorebridge when I went to get a new hose made up.
After lunch got the cows and calves in to tag the 11 calves . Moved them up the hill beside the others that we tagged a fortnight ago.
Once I had fitted the new hose to the trailer tonight, filled the tractor up with hydraulic oil and gave it a quick power wash, it was getting gray dark.
Charlie came in to say there was a calving cow needing to come in . So a 2 bike dusk time rodeo. Eventually got her rallied in to the steading. Put her in the crush and stuck a hand in for a feel. Everything there,2 big front feet and the head,so got the ropes on the legs and jacked it out. A muckle big calf. Doubt she would have managed on her own.
Any way, stuck them in a pen,and within 10 minutes the calf was up on its feet trying to suck.
Nature is a wonderful thing when it goes right .........
