Life is a Challenge!

A LESSON FROM THE GARDEN

I was intending to go looking for some dereliction after I had been out for lunch with a friend, but then I saw the bounty that Mr. HCB brought to show me and decided that this should be my Blip for today.

He works so hard in the garden and this year has been rather difficult in more ways than one, not least the changeable weather, so he has done really well to harvest runner beans, climbing French beans, courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes and raspberries.  He says that there is more rhubarb to come too, so all in all, not too bad a season.

The basket belonged to his dear Mum, who died many years ago, but which we still use as a trug, and think of her whenever we use it.

The background is our “No Mow May to September” meadow in our lawn, which has been a little disappointing too.  This will be strimmed this afternoon, but the pollinators have loved it and Mr. HCB is hoping to sow more wild flower seeds in the autumn, to give more colour next year.  I guess that’s the good thing about gardening - there is always next year - and hope for a better one.

But of course, that’s also true of life - if today hasn’t been good for you - tomorrow is another day and I do hope that it will be a much better one for you.  I realise there are many Blip friends going through trials of one sort and another, so to them, I say, “Hang in there” and look forward to a better tomorrow.

I found this quote - and you know I love my quotes:

“There is no medicine like hope,
     no incentive so great,
          and no tonic so powerful
               as expectation
of something better tomorrow.”
