Treats
A better night and I was up earlier than recently and got stuck into making the lemon curd and then empire biscuits for the Greenlaw show on Sunday (extra). A’s plans to enter lots of her fruit and veg haven’t materialised as her crops have been much poorer this year than last. She’s going to put in a Victoria sponge cake and a house plant instead!
Once those were done I got back to the blurb book and made a fair bit of progress although still frustrating and I’ll need to go back over the pages I did yesterday to redo them. S had been down to the Fruitmarket, City and Talbot Rice Galleries all morning and we had a saladey lunch when she got back before I set off down to town to meet JW. Good chat…we talked about stepping down from things and ended up comparing childhood memories (or in my case lack of them!).
The weather has been atrocious all day…a really thick haar that obscured everything from sight and lay like a thick wet blanket over the city…miserable (somehow made worse by hearing it was the hottest day of the year in the west!).
When I got back home we both ended up having a rest/nap since the constant grey yuk outside made us want to cosy up and escape it (although it wasn’t that cold outside it looked so grim from inside!)
In the evening we went to Fin&Grape in Bruntsfield. An unusual menu so we plumped for the set menu so we didn’t have to choose and had four small shared plates of salt cod mousse, sea trout in a Thai curry sauce, leeks and crispy potatoes in a cheesy sauce and beans, ricotta, almonds and shaved cured meat, then shared this glorious lemon sole on the bone with chips and salad, courgette and fregola. All absolutely delicious! We probably shouldn’t have, as we were already full, but also had dessert (lemon posset with raspberries and crumbled oats and Victoria plum with tonka bean mousse and almonds)….again delicious!
Staggered home…that’s the first big meal I’ve been out for in ages…and finished Series 3 of Emily in Paris before bed. Hoping the weather improves for the weekend’s activities!
