Smoking the Pork Shoulder...
...is a two man job. The barbecue needs to be kept at 250F in order to properly cook the meat for pulled pork.sandwiches. And it's always a serious business. Rick is instructing John on maintaining the proper temperature while he and Meg go to the store for the second time....No matter how much we plan ahead, and I confess, we didn't plan ahead much, multiple trips to the store are always required when we get together. Dana and Jim will be over later to join us for our Sunday supper.
We started the day slowly but eventually made our way to Cafe Frida for coffee and a double puppaccino from Mamadou . Spike can recognize his voice before any of us even see Mamadou coming down the passage to the courtyard. By the time he made it back with it, Spike was drooling!
The sun came out as we were having our pastries and we had a little walk through Juilliard Park .
It's too hot to spend much time outside. Mostly we've just been sitting around getting caught up and trying to fend off Spike who thinks guests are here strictly for his convenience and should be throwing his Kong for him because he knows we won't. He has a way of looking at you as if he can see. (see extra). His eye doctor thinks it's because he could see before he went totally blind and he remembers what it was like.
Even though we aren't doing a lot of extracurricular activities (other than going to the store) it has been wonderful having them here and we so enjoy having their company. They won't be here long enough, but normal service will be resumed here after they leave.
