Day 12 - Tenterfield

We like Tenterfield, a regional town with a population of about 4000. It doesn’t seem to have changed much. since we were last here and we had lunch at our favourite cafe, the Willow Tree.

Tenterfield is known as the birthplace of federation. Sir Henry Parkes, premier of the colony of NSW, gave his Tenterfield Oration here, urging the case for federation of the six colonies. He died in 1896 so never saw federation, which happened in 1901.

These pretty houses are rather typical of Tenterfield. architecture. They are near the Court House (extra).

On the way to Alstonville. we tried unsuccessfully.to.find some more tank traps. They were marked on the map on Paddy’s Flat Road but we could find no trace of them.
