Leaving Svalbard - Day 14
From 2 degrees Svalbard to 22 degrees Helsinki!
Bags were outside the door by 7.30 and we had breakfast with Karyn and Mark from Melbourne as we often did. Chatted to Mark and Lisa then went up on deck to see the Seed Bank which was just visible near the coal mine. It had snowed in the night. The bus took us a few hundred yards to the airport. We had a charter Boeing 737. A cheese roll and water were provided. Great views of the ice caps before we reached cloud.
The 3 hour flight was all easy except Mr C lost hearing in one ear on the descent. Easy walk to Hilton at the airport. They had no record of a booking and no spare rooms. Luckily a Quark personnel arrived with others from our trip and they got us a room as she seemed to have us on her list. The Hilton people’s mistake I suspect as they were very slow to deal with customers checking in.
