The Beautiful Catlins

Taken from the car window at 100kms so the iPhone did pretty well. A very emotional day. My eulogy was rather well and tearfully received. It rained as her coffin was lowered into the grave so the Māoris would say that was a good omen.  The cuppa followed hardly time to take a bite as was greeted by so many old friends. We were the last to leave as so many kept lining up to say hello. What a privilege to be there. Her boys did good by their mum. By the time we got back to Oamaru my overnight stay I was exhausted as had been up since 5am. Susan the daughter of my other amazing friend who died in 2011 took me down. June Shirley and I had been friends since the mid 1940s and used to joke about who would be the last one standing and it’s me. One of the extras is the three of us when we were about 14. The boys had put that one and another taken when we were 60 on the back of service sheet. How special that was.
