Sky on fire

Barmouth backblip 5

An action packed day!

In the morning a walk to Gellfawr on the hills above Barmouth. After the initial steep climb up, it was a steady walk with some fabulous views down to Barmouth (extra) and the estuary, and over to the high hills of North Wales (extra). But the promised spectacular views of Cadair Idris failed to materialise, as it was hiding under low cloud.

A bit late for lunch when we got back down to Barmouth, so we indulged instead in fruit scones with jam and clotted cream! Then a walk over the railway bridge (extra) almost as far as a terrace of houses on the other side, and back. It was incredibly windy by the time we approached the other side of the bridge.

A late afternoon drive to Bangor, for an Irish music session. MrM drove us through the once-familiar high hills of North Wales, but almost all the summits were under low cloud. An amazingly dramatic sky as we drove through the Ogwen Valley as the sun set. After a rather disappointing meal in Bangor, we found the session, and MrM was pleased to see several people he used to play music with several decades ago.

Back in Barmouth just after midnight.
