Harvest started......under threatening skies

A morning running about checking straw, checking barley and general faffing about.
Sent Kev off to start hauling home silage bales before the crows start pecking holes in them.
I headed off to bale straw at Oxenfoord, then as they were busy seeding winter barley, sent the boss to get a sample of my barley from the field to test. His moisture meter was showing 16.9%. so took the decision to get them to start cutting our barley at Gorebridge.
All go by 5 pm.
The first load read 20%,the second 19.8%.
Not what I want, as it will need dried down to 16% so it doesn't heat and spoil. Bugger.
However we kept going as the combine was there ,and it ain't leaving until the 5 fields are cut !
By the time it got dark we had most of the big field done ,so called it a day as don't want the grain any damper.
At least it's a start after last week being wasted by 5 days of fog....
