A spider web
The sky was cloudy this morning, but the sun still showed the presence of this big web in the outermost corner of the carport. The second window of the window seat captures a reflection of the roof of the carport and garage.
This evening the rain is heavy, and i have had to empty the wheelbarrow which collects all the rain falling on the roof of the garage and carport. And then overflows at the lowest point in the guttering
Visited by B-I-L who reports that he along with others in the District Health Board he works at has been offered voluntary redundancy. The DHB where I work has also circulated all staff making a similar offer. The Government has publicised their belief that there is massive waste and inefficiency in the provision of health care. A National party Government in the 1990s made the same claim and their interventions nearly destroyed our public system.
Government has dismissed the Board which was overseeing Te Whatu Ora, and appointed a Commissioner. The Commissioner is someone who has had similar roles on a number of occasions. He is credited with being very effective. What he has in the past been most successful at doing is hiding real costs by shifting funds from public to private sectors.
Our health system is high quality, despite being underfunded. Many of the claims being made by Ministers to justify what I fear will be a shift to privately funded health care, are invalid. Mental Health services are grossly under-resourced.
