Hyacinthoides lingulata

Another in my collection of little flowering bulbs that heralds the coming of Autumn.  From Morocco, this one is hardy outside here but the leaves suffer from slug and snail damage which weakens the bulbs over time.   In colder parts, frost does likewise.   In a pot under cold glass, it survived for thirty years in Norfolk and has always increased well.

A quiet day off.  After a slow start - as so often - I took the dogs on the Cynfal circuit from Rhydyronen.  The blackberries were still good in the lanes, I had taken two 1L yoghurt pots which came home filled :-)   This afternoon I did have some quiet time, sitting fashioning a lump of clay into two thumb pots.  These sat outside to dry a little while I potted up some recently arrived South African bulbs and seed, all from an exchange of material grown by UK enthusiasts.   I also moved a few things around to make sure that the back wall is accessible should the repairs start soon - dry weather is forecast so hopefully .....

This evening the blackberries have been converted into bramble jelly and the two thumb pots joined together and fashioned into a small vase.  An early night will follow although I shall watch more of Detectorists on iPlayer first.   A dry, very funny series with the charm of Last of The Summer Wine without most of the slapstick.
