MORE OF SWINDON PAINTFEST PAINTINGS
We had a very depleted congregation in Church today as one of our members is getting married this afternoon at Hailsham. Lots of people from Church were invited to be guests at the wedding - so those of us who won’t be there enjoyed a great sermon and some good singing, followed by Communion.
After the service, we decided to go out and find some more paintings that were done during the Swindon Paintfest a couple of weeks ago and these did not disappoint. You will see the main shot is painted on the side of a house, which must have been a mammoth task and I rather like the incongruity of the window, satellite dish and television aerial on top of the house.
There are four paintings on Fleming Way, and today I took shots of two of them, but will go back for the other two another day.
I have put the second one in as an extra; this is painted on the side of a bridge that used to be over the old canal, but this has long since gone - in fact, since Fleming Way named in honour of former Swindon Town FC striker, Harold Fleming, was constructed in 1965. You can see from my shot how close the houses are on York Road, which used to be an extension of Graham Street, where I lived when I was a young girl and we often walked over that bridge to get to the butcher’s shop which was in York Road.
I apologise for not commenting much in the last couple of days, but it has been a busy weekend for us, and today is no exception, because having sung in Church this morning, we have come home for a quick lunch before going out to sing in this evening’s service - well, I will be singing in the Worship Group, while Mr. HCB will be in the congregation!
Hope you all have a good week - I’m looking forward to having a restful time as Mr. HCB is off to cricket for 4 days and I have to say he is on a “high” at the moment because his team, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club beat Somerset last night in the T20 Final - their first ever win in this particular tournament. As we both said at the end of the game last night, his cricket buddy, Keith, would have been delighted, although he wasn’t that keen on T20!
