Heading off

I was sitting on Essex Bridge, chatting to a lady and her dog, when she mentioned she hadn’t seen the local heron for a while. I’d just realised he was hiding at the edge of the Shugborough garden so I pointed him out. (Extra)

She was relieved to see him, and then very soon, he took off, flew past us, and headed off up river.

On my way back to the car, I spotted a different heron, just lurking in the field.  You never quite know what will catch your eye there. No sign of the kingfisher but there were five naughty adolescent swans looking for trouble.
