Secret Nuclear Bunker

Today we continued our journey south, stopping first at the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker.  This was somewhere that Prime Ministers would have been sent in the event of hostilities, and it was a fascinating place to wander around.  It's on three levels, with access via a building that looks a small bungalow.  It was both larger and smaller than expected, in a weird kind of way!

From there we had lunch at a service station and then drove over the Dartford Bridge, stopping at the Kent Life museum, first for tea and cake and then a wander around.  It has a history of growing hops and the last extra is of the Oast House, where hops are dried.  This is fired up each autumn and used for drying hops grown on site.  They also have some local historic buildings that they've taken from their original location and rebuilt on the site.

We then drove even further south down to our cottage down to our cottage for the week.
