My Orkney mug
It didn’t stop raining today. Had two lovely phone calls, one with my Orkney friends, one with my son L. Also quite a bit of messaging and arranging future plans. I still find it amazing that I can buy train, cinema and football tickets sitting in my kitchen - all of which I did. Oh and I defrosted the freezer, which really needed doing. And I started a Terribly Difficult jigsaw - actually Van Gogh Starry Night which is wonderful for concentration. I think it will take me into next year.
Above is my Orkney mug, which I bought for myself on my recent visit. The artist is Sylvia Wishart and it’s called ‘Birds, pears and a ship in a bottle’ It’s just a detail from the painting on the mug. The artist lived just a few houses along from my friends’ house. And I bought this as it is so like their view - sea and massive sky, with birds passing. But also, my friends have two ships in bottles on their windowsill, as F taught herself how to make them. They even had a bowl of pears when I was visiting. I haven’t used it yet, just looked at it.
