If you can't beat them...

I know I have put up two back blips today and have more to come but I want to record my progress following my cataract operation.

I needed to be at SpaMedica in Kendal for 10:40.  We set off in good time in case of delays and traffic problems.  We arrived 20 minutes early, were greeted by a young lady  directed to a seat in the waiting area asked what hot drink we would like and it was brought to us.  dead on time I was taken down to another waiting area.  Soon I was called in where the first of many checks on my DoB address and the eye to be operated on were done.  The arrow was drawn on at that point.  Then a pellet of anaesthetic was placed under my eyelid along with a number of drop onne to dilate my pupil.  Then back out to wait.  A while later I was taken into "the "ward".

The ward turned out to be a room with 4 comfy chairs each with a divider between them  On a small table there was a clipboard and crayons.  The clipboard had a number of activities to pass the time.  I opted to do an observation one.  My Dob address and which eye I thought was being operated on was checked again.

After a wait "until there is room in there" I was taken into the pre theatre.  Guess what happened in there?  You got it! more checks of the same old thing and more anaesthetic drops in the eye.  Then the surgeon came and had a chat with me, explaining everything he was going to do and what I would see and hear.

Obviously the next step was going into theatre, where the the routine of Dob etc was repeated!  I was made comfortable on the "table" and the action started.  I had been told by people in the lead up to the op my eye would be clipped open.  Wrong!  Glued open would be a better description.  A plastic sheet was placed over my face and as he did it the surgeon pressed the sticky surface to my upper eyelid.  He cut a hole in a translucent part and stuck the lower lid down.  After that it was stare at a very bright light keeping my eye still.  In a very short time they were saying that's it we will take the cover off and you can sit up.

Next across the corridor to the discharge nurse.  Yes she checked everything again, well apart from which eye I was having the operation on, that was by now obvious.  She ran through the does and don'ts of the next couple of weeks.  Supplied yet more eye drops  sterile wipes information booklet etc.  My blood pressure and pulse were taken.  Then I was escorted back to Clickychick, offered another drink, which was brought to our seats and we were told we could stay there until I felt ready to move.

While I was "busy" CC had been chatting to others in the waiting room and had discovered a near by cafe/ice cream parlour so as I was feeling reasonably OK we went there for lunch.

Sorry about the length of the rant but unless I record the details I will forget.
