On the Moor
A glorious morning on the deserted moor. After the torrential rain of yesterday the burns were, in places overflowing their appointed limits and in the low sun gleamed silvery white - like patches of snow against the browning heather. Once we left the 1755 Military Road for the higher tracks to the crofts we were splashing through running water.
Our first objective was roofless Wester Crannich - shown in the main looking towards the Cairngorms which were dusted with snow and in the first extra.
The second extra shows Rychorrach high on the side of Carn Ruigh Corrach it is aptly named - the name translates as the sheep shieling or steep shieling. This croft was semi- occupied until the 1970s.
Both these crofts and Easter Cannich can be seen from the vicinity of the 'Jesus Saves' stone although their colours are gradually blending into the autumnal landscape.
