On the treetops bridge

A Kauri Reserve in Northcote was shut from visitors due to Kauri dieback, as it is known. It is transferred from place to place by the shoes/boots of people on tracks.

Rather than just close the reserve, the Council decided to make formed paths rather than the tracks of old. Makes for easier walking, and a shoe/boot sole cleaning system is in place at entry/exit points.

In the middle of the reserve is a deep gully and a bridge over the gully has both provided protection for the trees, and made the walk a great deal easier for most. The photo is of our two youngest grandsons, who are both on school holidays; Z from the Blue Mountains west of Sydney and Young L  from West Auckland. 

After finishing our walk we went to Takapuna Beach where there is a great cage and enjoyed an excellent lunch, followed by a walk along the broad sandy beach
