Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Lovely lunch!

Elizabeth came to take Archie out today, instead of Saturday. And so we went into town for lunch. Usually, I come back in time to see Archie home, but today we tried a new system, as last week we got delayed and had to text Abi. So, Elizabeth let Archie in and left him there. A good new system!

So, after lunch, I was able to dander through town and look in JR's (and Archie's) favourite George Street shops. I even bought a couple of items, encouraged by JR, who loves shopping, even if it's not her buying.

But lunch is worth a mention. We were in The Ivy, and the food is always excellent there! Good serice, nice surroundings. BUT... THE most awful caterwauling soundtrack!!! WHY??? Fortunately, once the place filled up, I couldn't hear it as much. But the waiter laughed when I mentioned it. It comes from Head Office, and is played in every Ivy establishment in the country.

We walked right along George Street, and thankfully, they seem to be removing the tacky little wooden tenty areas on the road, for outside dining. Not sure they would have been used much this summer... But presumably they'll start to build them again in November, for the Christmas season.

We popped in to Contini, a brilliant Italian restaurant of long standing. Now - they've got it right! Wonderful decor, serice and ambience. Very quiet
instrumental jazz music, with a deep bass (excellent speaker system) and NO screeching vocals. Perfect. A small glass of wine (each) was enjoyed  efore we caught the bus home (only a three minute wait at the bus stop!)
