a lifetime burning

Well, October has certainly started gloomily.  Hopefully we have some sunny days on the way shortly or I shall definitely need to start taking the vitamin D tablets.

In the meantime here is a shield bug (5th instar) nearly all grown up now.  The light is so poor today that this one needed flash.

The camera club competition kicked off again last night, with the first round of judging - DPI's this week, the first print round is towards the end of October.  I've started well in the colour and mono rounds, which clearly meant that last night we had one of the better judges - needless to say, when I don't do so well its because the judge doesn't know what he's supposed to be doing (cough)(!).  Listening to the poor judge try to find something to say about each of the 80 odd images he had to comment on last night reminded me that under no circumstances should I ever think about becoming a competition judge.  It's a thankless task.
