Roadhouse Blues

A hurriedly snatched (before the light went) photo in Charnock Richard Services. A comfort stop on the way home after a - longer than anticipated - day in Chester. It’s mainly been a paperwork gathering day today, as mums solicitor needs a lot of information in respect of my application to the Court of Protection for Deputyship. Didn’t have time to look through everything there and then so have just emptied the desk and brought it all home to be sifted and sorted over the weekend.
Sister has been moved to a new unit but is not settling well. The manager called to introduce himself and bring me up to speed. Sounded a very nice bloke and understood my sister perfectly as his dad (who is a similar age) has suffered from the same issues in the past. I know my sister is not happy but she is in the best/safest place at the moment. I said I’d give her a bit longer to settle before I called to see her.
I did go and see mum. She continues to be withdrawn and only leaves her room for meals. I think she is just resigned to being in the home. With failing sight and hearing, in addition to her dementia, it is very difficult to have any sort of conversation with her. Again, in her present condition, she is in the best place and we know she is warm, comfortable and well fed.
Quite a depressing day all round, and I’m very grateful to be heading back home now. As it’s later than planned, a Chinese takeaway is now looking like the front runner in the “what do we have for tea” stakes…
