Defying Gravity

A great night out tonight watching West End star Kerry Ellis at the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham St Annes. She rose to prominence when she was chosen to play the role of Elpheba in the original London production of Wicked, but has had many other leading roles over the years, as well as recording albums - and touring - with Brian May.
We were treated to a wonderful couple of hours of theatrical anecdotes and stunningly sung tunes. She has a fantastic voice and, in the small venue we were in, you could really feel the power and emotion she put into each number.
We’ve never seen Wicked, and didn’t think we’d seen her in anything else, but when she talked about her start in musical theatre, we realised we’d probably seen her in the ensemble of a few shows we’d been to in the late ‘90s/early ‘00s.
Really glad I spotted this was on and bought tickets - one of the best nights out at the theatre we’ve had for a while. The tour continues until the end of November - highly recommended if it comes anywhere near you.
