Witness confusion
A satisfactory day at the controls today although I somehow got my second wind about 5pm and ended up going over my hours. I was going to make some sort of noodley sweet and sour thing but needed to burn off a few calories first so went out to the shops as I'd run out of instant decaf coffee. The one I buy is about the best I've found, although it doesn't taste brilliant – certainly nothing like as good as our secret cafe in Keswick's coffee! – but it's okay.
Someone in the supermarket though had forgotten to change the labels on the shelves, or these have got to be the woodiest, chunkiest chrysanthemums I've ever seen.
I returned using the A701 where they are finally replacing the tarmac which had become quite dangerous, much mended and much potholed, especially where you would cycle. Except that at the contraflow, the wrong sign was used and directed everyone onto the lane they were busy mending, and the lane we were meant to use was full of vehicles waiting at a red light to come the other way. It was utter madness. The site workers I warned about it, for I was first in the queue and had proceeded while drivers behind waited, didn't know anything about it because it wasn't their job. Eventually someone figured out what to do, the drivers behind had somehow escaped and started to overtake me.
