Life's Little Moments

Camouflage in Yellow

Just before breakfast this morning, I caught some motion up in the trees and dashed outside with a camera.  There were several small birds flitting around in our pine trees, making themselves as difficult as possible to photograph.  Normally, I would have deleted this image but as I may not see another Pine Warbler this year, I'm posting it for my Yardbirds list.  This is a male, distinguished from the female by his bright yellow plumage on the throat and chest.  Really a very striking little bird and I wish I'd have gotten an unobstructed image of it...but, oh well.

I had an unexpected phone call from my niece this morning and we ended up talking for about an hour and a half.  It was so great to catch up - we haven't had a chance to talk since she and nephew and three kids moved to Texas for Brian's next Army post.  She is such a smart, funny, warm person and I am so glad to count her as a friend as well as family.

I am headed out tomorrow to do some photography of the practice session for some dog trials that are being held on the property where Jax goes to daycare.  I've come to know the owner over the years - it was she who made the introduction to the woman who owns the cat rescue where I had some much fun recently photographing cats.  Anyway, when I picked Jax up last night, she asked me if I'd be interested in photographing the event, which is next Saturday.  I said yes, of course.  But having never done this before, I think going to the practice trials will be very helpful in terms of figuring out where I want to position for the shots.  The trials include obedience, tracking and protection so a wide variety of activity.

Today has been another stunner of a day with temps in the 70's and patchy sun.  My last Monarch just eclosed and is resting in the Mansion, waiting for his wings to "harden".  I may keep him overnight just to make sure he is flight ready.

I am going to make a batch of Keto brownies so that will be my chocolate today.

And Kudos to TiciaS who correctly identified yesterday's mystery abstract as a car panel getting ready for paint.  The yellow and blue are old paint; the white is "bondo" which is body filler; and the silver is metal.  See the car in Extra!
