Wound up in Wexford

Kerry Cliffs

We've had a lovely day, showing our South African visitors around the Ring of Kerry (and a bit more).

We had a lovely breakfast in our hotel in Tralee. 1st extra shows our view from the bedroom window - a good demonstration of our predicted weather - sunshine at first, rain later.

We did an anti-clockwise circuit.  We stopped at a viewpoint dedicated to the opening up of the Kerry Peninsula, where a chap was sitting with a few bits for sale (2nd extra).  Accompanied by his dog.  And with a pile of fresh reeds, from which he was making St Brigid Crosses.  I bought some, but really must learn how to make these.

We tried to cross to Valentia Island on the ferry, but found it wasn't running - "come back in 3 months" we were told (3rd extra).  Stopped for lunch at Portmagee (4th extra).

At Kerry Cliffs, W opted out of the walk.  U and I went up the north side only, but S did the whole thing.  Spectacular.

Around this time, the weather started to really deteriorate, increasing rain, fewer dry(ish) spells. We didn't really tarry over the next bit.  We stopped in Sneem to show them "The Way the Fairies Went".  We stayed in the car!

In Kenmare we offered them a chance to see the stone circle, but as it was lashing down at that point, they declined!

To Killarney via Molls Gap and Ladies View - the view was limited by mist, but still impressive.  In Killarney we introduced them to the fun of sitting in the car whilst it charges.

At dinner, they tried, and enjoyed, Guinness.

Extras added at last
