And then there were Five...
...Redwoods in my local park (and there may be more)
Took an early evening stroll with youngest and we sat for a while between the Giant Redwoods. It was then that two more trees caught my eye, in particular their distinctive foliage.
A week yesterday when we had a walk along the Goyt, halfway was a diversion through Vernon Park & Woodbank Park immediately adjacent. Outside of Woodbank Hall is a good sized Dawn Redwood, a variety that whilst known about in the fossil record, were only discovered to be still in existence when examples were found in rural China in the 1940s!
I would say the example at Woodbank is from the first wave of seeds that were sent around the world from those as it's 'a big' tree. The two I saw today with identical foliage have much younger looking trunks but with a touch of sponginess in the bark, am going to stick my neck out and guess that's what they are!
