In Big London
As my son used to call it, when we visited and walked along the south bank, when he was little. I started the day early, heading down to the station. Would you believe it - all trains to London were postponed as there was a distressed person on the line to the west of Bristol. I eventually set off on the 7am service at 9.15 though I had a ticket for the 8.30. I found out from the guard that the person was ok - all the trains were stopped quickly enough. And they were helped to leave the track. So it ended much more happily than on Monday.
I met my cousin R in the crypt cafe in Trafalgar Square and we had coffee and a lovely long catch up. Then my son L joined us for lunch - he’s up from Plymouth for his oldest and best friend F’s 30th birthday. Then L and I walked across the river and along the South bank to London Bridge. He went down to Brixton to meet some friends, and I met F’s mum S ( up to London for the same reason) at the Tate Modern where we saw the outstanding Kandinsky and the Blue Rider group exhibition. Then S went to her hotel and I enjoyed wandering back along the South bank. The main one is taken from close to the Tate - St Paul’s and the city. The second one is looking west a bit later, looking at Hungerford bridge, which I was about to cross over to get to Embankment. I’m standing next to the Festival Hall. Little did I know I was next to a big red carpet do for the start of the London Film Festival. I thought it was just the usual Friday night throng.
I got the tube then up to my friend’s house near Finsbury Park. I was so shattered by then I could hardly put one foot in front of the other:) People who follow my journal might remember I fell out with a very old good friend over Palestine. This is her. We’re doing much better at patching things up.
