A Ghostly Galleon Tossed Upon Cloudy Seas

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding - riding, riding -
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn door.
From the poem The Highwayman, by Alfred Noyes.

The October moon is called the Hunter's Moon. It's been putting on an amazing show in our front window every night. So I finally answered its call and went out to meet the moon on our front porch steps.

It was variably cloudy, which is probably my favorite sort of sky for moon photos. I took along my monopod, and so the night found me, sort of lying on my back on the top step, with my body wrapped around the monopod, pointing the camera at the sky.

We got a lovely corona as the night wore on, and I was happy to get a few wild shots of that. It seemed sort of orange, mostly. But then I got this one photo - one shot only - where the corona turned red!

My soundtrack song is Thin Lizzy, with Dancing in the Moonlight.
